Best Places to go in Fort Worth, TX

Author: Alycia Medina, Workplace Manager | CommonGrounds Workplace

“I have places to go, things to do, and people to see” – words some of us haven’t spoken since before the pandemic started. As the world slowly gets back to normal, most of us are ready to get back out there after a long workday in the office. Our CommonGrounds Workplace in Fort Worth, TX is conveniently located downtown which is right in the center of all the action! We called in an expert – Alycia Medina – who just so happens to be the Workplace Manager of CG Fort Worth, to give you the inside scoop on the best places to go (especially after your workday at CommonGrounds). Check out her recommendations:

Hi there! I’m Alycia, the Workplace Manager at CG Fort Worth. I moved here almost four years ago and I instantly found this city to be both homey and quirky. There is no shortage of great things to do, but here are my tried and true favorite places and experiences:

The Stockyards

Billy Bob’s Texas is a MUST with 30 bar line stations. It features professional bull riding, line dancing, concerts with big headliners, and it is also the world’s largest honky tonk! Another great evening activity is walking through Mule Alley and eating dinner at The Biscuit Bar (make sure to order the Hot Hot Chicken).

Attending the PBR Rodeo when it’s in town is a complete cultural experience. Fort Worth has the nation’s only twice-daily cattle drive in the afternoons, as well as a year-round rodeo Friday and Saturday nights at the Cowtown Coliseum Museums.

Museums

The Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth is a show-stopper! On display are incredible pieces from Michelangelo, Picasso and Monet such as Weeping Willow (Monet), The Torment of Saint Anthony (Michelangelo), and Man With a Pipe (Picasso). I also recommend making a stop to the The Modern Art Museum and checking out Conjoined, a sculpture of intertwining stainless steel trees, designed by Roxy Pane. It is absolutely beautiful!

Another great activity is visiting the The Fort Worth Zoo. It’s been titled the absolute best zoo in America by the “Los Angeles Times” and “USA Today” and is currently one of the top 5 zoos in the nation!

Shopping

If you’re looking to shop, definitely try the Tanger Outlets (hello Columbia, Adidas, Restoration Hardware and Kate Spade) and The Shops at Clearfork for bowling, boutiques, as well as premium shopping, a movie theatre, restaurants and a farmer’s market. Everything you could possibly need, all in one place!

Downtown
(*drum roll* Downtown Fort Worth is where CommonGrounds is located – in the Cowtown Place Building, just a few blocks from Sundance Square)

The Underground Scat Jazz Lounge is a hidden gem. It’s a cool place where adults can enjoy a great cocktail and actually experience a version of a movie-worthy scat lounge with local, regional and national talent. Another great place to check out on the weekends is Sundance Square. There’s a great splash pad for kids with a Melt Ice Cream cart nearby, and tons of local shops and restaurants (expert tip: it’s great place for Instagram worthy pics). If you’re looking to add a little culture to your day, the Bass Performance Hall is home to our own symphony orchestra, as well as the Texas Ballet Theater, Fort Worth Opera, and Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. Plus, the interior and exterior architecture is absolutely stunning! Finally, the Fort Worth Water Gardens is a massive piece of interactive water art and a great place to take photos!

For the Foodie (we go way beyond just BBQ)

The Clay Pigeon – I highly recommend the bone marrow for the fully culinary experience.

Salsa Limon – You cannot go wrong with an El Campeon Burrito and a Mexican coke.

HG Supply – Definitely order the queso (it may be vegan, but it is delish!) and make sure to stay for the sunset toast.

Reata – Perfect for happy hour on the roof top bar, with its stunning views and amazing glass ceiling.

Joe T. Garcia’s – Say hello to margaritas and fajitas! Even though you have to wait in line to sit outside, it is so, so worth it (especially during the golden hour and at night).

Fort Worth may be the 2nd half of “Dallas-Fort Worth”, but we hold our own here! With nicknames like Cowtown, Panther City and Funkytown – it truly is the modern west and has loads to offer. This city is a quaint pocket of familiarity where we take things a little slower and soak up the moment. Fort Worth is home.
